Alder

Alnus rubra (red alder)

Overview 

Alder is native to the Pacific Northwest and is the most abundant hardwood in our forests.

It machines clean and takes stain evenly, which is why cabinet and door shops choose it on its merits, not its price. We saw it ourselves in Philomath, log to rough-sawn board, in clear and knotty grades.

Often used in cabinetry, doors, furniture, mouldings, musical instruments, and interior millwork.
